How to Manage the Neuro Patient

Neuro assessment should be focused, rapid, and thorough!

There are two types of Neuro Patients that nurses care for: 1) the patient with neurological dysfunction, and 2) the patient at risk for developing neurological dysfunction. Assessment should be different depending upon which group our patient falls into.

Do you care for any of the following patients?

  • Patients on anticoagulants?
  • Patients with cardiovascular disease?
  • Post-op patients?
  • Patients with electrolyte disorders?

These are patients "at risk" for neurological dysfunction. Therefore, they need frequent neuro assessments. But, an in-depth neuro assessment is not practical for all of these patients.

This program will introduce the "Quick 5-point Neuro Check", which focuses on what parts of the neurological exam are most likely to change first, and therefore should be carefully monitored.

The "Quick 5-point Neuro Check" is a tool for rapidly assessing neurological status in our patients at risk for problems. Use it to pick up problems early and ward off complications.

How to Manage the Neuro Patient tells you what you need to know about assessing and managing the patient with neurological dysfunction. This course is taught by David W. Woodruff, MSN, RN, CNS, CCRN, a nationally-known nursing expert and teacher.

How to Manage the Neuro Patient includes:

  • Assessment and management without invasive monitoring
  • 60-minute audio CD
  • Comprehensive workbook
  • “This is exactly what I needed -- down-to-earth and practical” -JD, RN
